Inception:
2004

University collaborators:

University of South Carolina (fiscal agent)

Coastal Carolina University (collaborative partner)

About the CoEE:

Current technological applications in the travel and tourism industry are severely outdated. As this CoEE develops new travel and tourism technology, its leaders hope to secure contracts with major corporations and tourism ministries and expand South Carolina’s tourism industry.

The CoEE is developing next-generation software for the tourism industry in conjunction with major hospitality and tourism corporations. The creation of new technological standards will allow hotels, airlines, rental car companies, restaurants, and destination marketers to operate more efficiently.

The CoEE’s three primary goals include (a) helping technology developers and travel and tourism businesses establish and adopt technological standards in hardware, software, and web-based applications; (b) developing and testing technological applications based on new industry standards; and (c) evaluating the effects of new technology on organizational structures with the goal of increasing the efficiency of corporate management.

USC’s College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management is assembling an outstanding group of tourism professors along with a master’s degree program in Hospitality Technology Management. The degree program is being developed in cooperation with USC’s School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management and the Technology Support program. The faculty and students from this program, along with a Ph.D. program also being developed, work in conjunction with the CoEE.
