CoEE leader named Fellow by American Association for the Advancement of Science
12/11/2007

Dr. Kenneth Tew, an Endowed Chair for the CoEE in Translational Cancer Therapeutics at MUSC, has been awarded the distinction of Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The organization awarded Tew for his distinguished contributions to the field of cancer drug discovery and development, with particular reference to redox pathways.

Tew, who is professor and chairman of the Department of Cell and Molecular Pharmacology at MUSC and holds the John C. West Endowed Chair in Cancer Research, is one of only two South Carolina researchers awarded the distinction.

The AAAS awards the distinction of Fellow to its members whose efforts toward advancing science applications are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished.

Dr. Tew has an international reputation in cancer drug discovery and development. His research was pivotal in the design of treatment for hormone refractory prostate cancer. His research has also proved instrumental in the late-stage clinical testing of two novel, promising drugs, one for treating ovarian and lung cancer, and another that serves as a modifier of bone marrow-mediated immune function.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the world's largest general scientific society, and publisher of the journal, Science.
